We Talk Science Seminar Jan. 27 2015

If you’re looking for a place to learn and get some free lunch, we have a great option for you! Dr. Magan Lewis and Dr. Ryan Brace from Dow AgroSciences will be speaking on “Expectations for careers outside of Academia” on Wednesday, January 27th from 12-1pm in Norther Plains Biostress building room 028. Oct 16: JMP Demo by BMGSA!

The Bio-Micro Graduate Student Association at SDSU will be hosting a tutorial on how to use JMP at their weekly meeting. JMP is a statistical analysis software that can be downloaded for free at this link. If you’d like to learn how to use JMP to analyze data, download the program and this data set: JMPDemoDATA-TJB . Bring your laptop and those downloads to the weekly meeting in Biostress 103 on Thursday October 16 from 12:30-1:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to learn a relatively easy program!

Joseph F. Nelson Graduate Scholarship Announcement

The Joseph F. Nelson Graduate Scholarship is open to graduate students at South Dakota State University who are in good standing (a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above) and meet the specified criteria for the award.  The Joseph F. Nelson Endowment Fund provides for a graduate student scholarship in the amount of $4,450 (payable $2,225 per semester) plus up to $2,225 for tuition and fees (not to exceed $8,900 total for Fall 2014 & Spring 2015).  The graduate student must have successfully completed 15 semester credit hours of academic work toward a Master’s or Ph.D. degree.  The student must be completing, as part of the degree, original research; preferably in one of the following sciences:  Physics, Chemistry, Physical Geography, Biology, Soil Science, Geology, Mathematics or other Physical Sciences.  Awards for M.S. students are restricted to students pursuing a thesis (option A).  This award is to be made in addition to any graduate assistantship the student may have, and may not be used to substitute for or partially replace an existing assistantship.
